Bentley has revealed the all-new Torcal at Jack Barclay Bentley in London. It becomes the marque’s latest model line, alongside the Continental GT & GTC, Flying Spur and Bentayga, and it is the first Bentley with a fully electric powertrain. The Torcal is designed, engineered and handcrafted in Crewe and launches in two versions, the core Torcal and the more sporting Torcal S. The Torcal S delivers up to 888 PS and 1,350 Nm of torque, the highest torque figure of any Bentley ever built. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds (0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds) and reaches a top speed of 162 mph.
At the heart of the Torcal are two permanent magnet synchronous motors, powered by an 800V battery with a net capacity of 113 kWh. The core Torcal produces 821 PS and 1,194 Nm, which takes it from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds and on to 155 mph. Both versions offer up to 375 miles (600 km) of WLTP range. At a 400 kW charger, 100 miles of range can be added in around seven minutes. The battery is covered by a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
The Torcal is also the first Bentley to feature fully active suspension. It is paired with adaptive two-valve dampers that can raise or lower each corner independently and instantly. The system delivers a true ‘magic carpet’ ride and removes the need for anti-roll bars altogether. Electronic All Wheel Steering comes as standard and reduces the turning circle to just 11.1 metres. The result, according to Bentley, is a car as comfortable as a Flying Spur yet as dynamic as a Continental GT Speed.
Externally, the Torcal introduces a bold new design language. A long wheelbase, short overhangs and powerful rear haunches give it a low, sleek stance, while an illuminated diamond grille reinterprets the Continental T. It is also the first Bentley to wear the marque’s modernised emblem. Inside, the Torcal debuts the world’s first 100% Merino wool automotive fabric, developed with Somerset weavers Fox Brothers. It sits alongside two new finishes, Ombré Walnut and Sunburst Aluminium by Mulliner, and the rear bench is the first in a Bentley to power-fold.
Technology is designed to enhance, rather than dominate, the Bentley experience. Four Experience Modes (Bentley, Comfort, Sport and Refresh) bring together light, sound, climate and digital information to suit the mood of each journey. The Bentley Dynamic Symphony gives the driver a propulsion soundtrack performed on real instruments and inspired by the beat of the 6¾-litre V8. Curved OLED displays, an augmented reality head-up display and 25 radars, sensors and cameras complete a highly advanced package.
