When describing its design, Top Gear was so enthralled by the Ferrari Roma it stated: “Make no mistake, the Roma is a gorgeous car.” Which poses the question: how to follow such a machine? The answer from the Prancing Horse marque is the Amalfi. Ferrari’s new 2+ coupé evolves the grand tourer concept, combining high performance with finely-honed driving dynamics, comfort, refinement, and versatility.
The elegant exterior form represents a new interpretation of Ferrari’s berlinetta style, with perfect proportions and even more sleek, sculpted surfacing than the Roma. The minimalist theme is characterised by slender LED headlights and lack of a traditional grille. The long, swooping bonnet emphasises the wedge profile, while at the rear a full-width character line neatly encapsulates the hidden tail lights – a classic touch executed with contemporary visual language. Harmoniously integrated into the tail is a deployable wing that can minimise drag or maximise downforce.
Inside, the dual cockpit layout envelops both driver and passenger and features an HD display either side of the new 10.25-inch touschscreen. Making a return is the iconic anodised red start button, joining the Manettino rotary switch selector on the steering wheel. Machined from a solid billet of aluminium, the centre console appears suspended, enhancing the interior’s cocoon effect.
Naturally, the heart of the Amalfi is an evolution of the 3.9-litre twin-turbo, flat-plane V8. Now delivering 640PS at 7,500rpm, throttle response is even more rapid and enables scintillating performance in concert with the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 0-62mph sprint takes just 3.3 seconds, maximum speed is more than 198mph.
