The 21C VMax is built for one purpose: maximum velocity. It sets aside the dramatic wing and aero features of the 21C HDF for an elongated, wingless longtail and a reworked front end, which rebalance aerodynamic loads and slash drag to a CdA of just 0.76. Twin flush decklid intakes replace the roof-mounted intake, while the longer rear deck makes room for an extended diffuser. The result is a top speed of 253mph (407km/h) with up to 1,500kg of downforce near top speed, keeping the VMax stable and composed however fast you go.
The VMax shares Czinger’s in-house 2.88-litre twin-turbo V8, the most power-dense homologated V8 in the world. It produces 750hp, revs to 11,000rpm and weighs just 105kg. Two electric motors on the front axle and a crankshaft-mounted Motor Generator Unit add a further 500hp, for a combined 1,250hp through a seven-speed sequential transaxle. The result is 0-62mph in 1.9 seconds and a quarter mile in just 8.5 seconds, two-tenths quicker than the 21C HDF thanks to its low-drag bodywork. Yet the VMax is also the most practical 21C: its longtail adds a luggage compartment behind the engine, giving it a genuine grand touring edge.
Like every 21C, the VMax is built around the world’s first BioLogic™ Chassis. 21% of the car is topology-optimised and additively manufactured by Czinger’s sister company, Divergent Technologies. The steering rack, motor housings, suspension components and crash structures are all printed in metal and joined to a carbon fibre monocoque weighing just 115kg. The result is a dry weight of 1,600kg, the lightest in the 21C range. Fighter jet-inspired inline tandem seating gives the driver a panoramic view, and the rear seat accommodates passengers up to 6’5″. Each VMax is hand-assembled at Area 21 in Los Angeles and built bespoke to its owner.
