The Aston Martin DB12 was first put into production in 2023, marking the latest evolution in Aston Martin’s iconic DB line. Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, it represents the natural successor to the widely celebrated DB11 and continues to be built at the marque’s factory headquarters in Gaydon. The DB12 introduces a new generation of performance, combining cutting-edge technology with Aston Martin’s heritage of luxury and engineering excellence.
Departing from the V12 lineage, the DB12 introduces an entirely new powerplant with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine sourced from Mercedes-AMG. This marks a significant technological shift, delivering 671 hp and 701 lb-ft of torque.
Coupled with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the DB12 achieves exceptional performance figures including a 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 200 mph. The new engine platform emphasizes efficiency alongside performance, incorporating advanced thermal management and variable valve timing systems.
The DB12 coupe represents the pinnacle of Aston Martin’s grand touring capability. With its newly refined exterior design and aerodynamic enhancements, it delivers the same potent 671 hp twin-turbo V8, producing 701 lb-ft of torque. The 8-speed dual-clutch transmission ensures seamless acceleration with a 0-60 time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 200 mph. The coupe configuration offers a lower center of gravity and enhanced structural rigidity compared to its convertible counterpart, resulting in sharper handling dynamics whilst maintaining the comfort and refinement expected from a true grand tourer.
Introduced as the performance-focused variant, the DB12 S elevates the experience further with enhanced engine tuning that extracts an impressive 707 hp and 709 lb-ft of torque from the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. A recalibrated eight-speed dual-clutch transmission optimized for sportier engagement delivers a 0-60 acceleration of 3.1 seconds, with the same 200 mph top speed electronically maintained. The DB12 S features upgraded suspension tuning with adjustable damping, carbon-ceramic brakes, and sport-specific settings across all three driving modes to provide a more aggressive and responsive driving experience without compromising the marque’s luxury credentials.
The convertible version, known as the Volante, was released in 2024 and shares the same potent 671 hp powerplant as the DB12 coupe. The multi-layer fabric roof mechanism has been engineered with meticulous precision to minimize noise and vibration whilst maximizing structural integrity. The Volante’s power delivery has been specifically calibrated to accommodate the additional weight from the roof architecture and provide enhanced torque characteristics for smoother low-speed maneuvers and a refined driving experience with the roof retracted. The convertible maintains the aesthetic and aerodynamic integrity of the DB12 line, with seamless integration of the roof mechanism into the overall design language.
