Launched to replace the much-lauded and much-loved DB11, the all-new Aston Martin DB12’s arrival coincided with the celebration of the brand’s 110th birthday and three-quarters of a century of the famed DB ‘David Brown’ nameplate. However, be in no doubt; the new DB12 is a car that points most assuredly and most confidently to the future.
Aston Martin describes the DB12 as: “The world’s first super tourer” – a title it expresses visually to dramatic effect. Muscular, athletic, and achingly handsome from every conceivable angle, the DB12 is unashamedly more aggressively styled than its predecessor. It sports a larger front grille, more prominent aero features, and ultra-advanced new LED Matrix technology headlamps. It is also the first production model to leave Gaydon proudly bearing the latest version of the brand’s iconic wings badge.
Inside the opulently appointed cabin, it’s very much a case of fast-forward to the future, too, with the DB12 featuring the most advanced technology ever produced by the brand. An all-new, state-of-the-art 10.25-inch touchscreen combines class-leading levels of high-resolution clarity with the ability to respond to touch inputs in a scarcely believable 30 milliseconds, taking in-car connectivity to another level. Wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto are also offered, together with software updates over the air, ensuring that the infotainment system is always up to date.
The DB12’s extensively re-engineered, and uprated handbuilt twin-turbocharged V8 engine delivers more power, torque, and performance than before. Combining a mighty 680PS and a prodigious 800 Nm of pulling power, the sprint to 62mph is dispatched in a mere 3.6 seconds en route to a 202mph top speed.
Along with amped-up performance, Aston Martin’s engineering team has delivered numerous enhancements to the aluminium chassis, a stiffer body structure, wider front and rear track and larger wheels for even more assured handling and greater levels of driving engagement and pleasure. Significantly uprated adaptive dampers provide a suspension package with an even more comprehensive breadth of ability.
With the poise and performance to stick with any supercar over a mountain pass, and the comfort and deportment to soak up a full day of cross-continent grand touring, the Aston Martin DB12 effortlessly lives up to its ‘world’s first super tourer’ title. And equally crucially, it takes the hallowed DB ‘David Brown’ legend to new levels.
