The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante is the ultimate model in the Gallardo line-up, and is more dynamic and powerful than ever. In keeping with the famous ‘Superleggera’ (superlight) name, it is also significantly lighter. Compared with its already lightweight predecessor, the new car has been
pared down by a significant 70kg and weighs just 1,340kg, making it the leanest road-going model in Lamborghini’s range. One of the main reasons for this radical weight loss is the extensive use of carbon fibre, with numerous exterior and interior components using it – the perfect material for a high-performance sports car.
The most noticeable effect of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera’s weight loss programme is the improvement of its power-to-weight ratio and reduced total mass. In addition to transforming the performance figures, it also means that the car is also more efficient – CO2 emissions are lower, for example.
The radical wedge-shaped body has been modified with a singular focus on increasing aerodynamic performance. Working closely with wind tunnel experts, the designers at Lamborghini’s Centro Stile remodelled the front bumper, where three deeply recessed trapezoidal frames now house the large air intakes. This new design increases the supply of cooling air and increases downforce on the front axle.
In the pursuit of higher efficiency and better performance, the underbody elements have also been modified, with a new sill shape, redesigned rear diffuser incorporating the four large exhausts and a special Superleggera rear spoiler.
To achieve its incredible power-to-weight ratio of 2.35kg per CV, the V10, 5.2-litre engine generates 570 CV. The results are clear. The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante gets from 0 to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds and has a maximum speed of 352km/h. Yet despite this thrilling turn of speed, its fuel consumption is improved and CO2 emissions are reduced by 20.5 percent compared with the previous model.
Harnessing the power of this engine is an advanced, no-compromise e-gear transmission. Operated via steering wheel-mounted paddles, this automated system shifts through its six ratios using electronic management, with complete smoothness and lightning speed. E-gear has three different driving modes, including ‘Thrust mode’, which allows the car to launch at 5,000rpm with minimal wheelspin.
Transferring all this accessible performance to the road is a sophisticated permanent four-wheel drive system that divides the V10’s power at a ratio of 30/70 between the front and rear wheels. As you would expect, the weight distribution of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante is a near perfectly balanced 43/57 front to rear.
