Uniquely, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder combines an open-top body style with the extreme purist performance car focus of rear-wheel drive. Agile, very rapid and new for 2012, this can be seen as the ultimate balance of undiluted super sports car driving characteristics and open-air thrills. The latest version of this unique Lamborghini has been extensively modified by the
engineers at Sant’Agata Bolognese. Dynamics have been fine-tuned, including specific damper settings and aerodynamics adapted to the rear-wheel drive balance. The ESP system has also been altered to allow wider drift angles – very much in keeping with the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder’s raw tactile character.
Displaying Lamborghini’s established and unmistakable design forms – sharp lines, a low dramatic profile and no unnecessary decoration, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder is created especially for hands-on, enthusiastic drivers. With such immense power, oversteer is at the command of the driver, but only in the precise measure that the driver requires. This is never unpredictable but always absorbing.
As ever, the heart of the Gallardo is its breathtaking 5.2-litre, V10 engine. Here it has been retuned and optimised for rear-wheel drive, delivering a unique balance of high revving power and flexible torque, plus an incredible exhaust note that is best appreciated with the roof open.
With the benefit of systematic and uncompromising lightweight design, the 550hp Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder is capable of reaching 100km/h in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 319km/h. Importantly, the Spyder’s soft top is designed for unlimited top speed enjoyment whether open or closed.
A fitting partner for the V10 engine, Lamborghini’s newly improved e-Gear automated transmission is now lighter and 40 percent quicker than before in corsa mode. The robotised six-speed box allows instant, smooth changes, controlled from steering wheel-mounted paddles.
