The Huracán LP 580-2 Spyder develops 572bhp at a sensational 8000 rpm, which simply has to be enjoyed with the top-down for the full sonic symphony from the naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V10. That’s some 30bhp down on the all-wheel drive 610-4, but the difference in performance is negligible; 0-62mph in the RWD Spyder takes just 3.6 seconds and top speed is 197mph. In comparison, the extra traction of all-wheel drive and an additional 30bhp gives the LP 610-4 Spyder figures of 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds and 201mph. The RWD Spyder is also 33kg lighter and its weight slightly more rear-biased at 40:60 front:rear.
But to dwell on such minute differences miss the point. Putting all 580 horsepower through the rear wheels feels like an act of daring, taking the path of exhilaration and adrenaline just that bit closer to the edge. For those choosing the LP 580-2 RWD Spyder, that’s all the justification they’ll need.
