A front-mounted V12 is deeply engrained in the heritage of Ferrari. The one that powers the 812 Superfast is the new leader of the pack; 800 metric horsepower and 123hp per litre are remarkable figures, even by Maranello standards. The 6.5-litre V12 features a 350 bar direct injection system and F1-inspired variable geometry intake tracts; 80% of maximum torque is available from 3,500 rpm, before building to a tsunami-like 718Nm at 7,000rpm. The close-ratio double-clutch transmission delivers shorter shift times for faster acceleration and a sportier response. 0-62mph (100km/h) takes 2.9 seconds; top speed is an academic yet deeply impressive 210+mph.
The 812 Superfast benefits from experience gained with the F12 TdF, which featured Virtual Short Wheelbase software. In the 812 Superfast the technology is now in version 2.0, combining stability at speed with exceptional dynamic agility. Another first for the 812 Superfast is Electric Power Steering which integrates seamlessly with all the dynamic technologies, including Side Slip Control.
A lot of tech-speak and acronyms? The effect is simpler to describe. The 812 Superfast will thrill yet not overwhelm its fortunate owners, giving them access to the full performance of a peerless, pure, thoroughbred front-engined V12. Ferrari, we salute you.
