Mulsanne Speed

Bespoke flagship takes 400 hours of hand-craftsmanship

The Bentley Mulsanne Speed takes its place alongside the 2017 model year Mulsanne and Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase to offer a choice of three bespoke Bentleys. As the name implies, the Mulsanne Speed is the fastest and most driver-oriented of the three, yet it imposes no compromises in luxury, comfort or choice. A fresh new look, new infotainment technology and subtle chassis revisions add to the visceral appeal of the 530bhp V8.

Bentley Mulsanne Speed

As with its 2017 model year Mulsanne stablemates, the Mulsanne Speed features a wide, vertical vaned grille in stainless steel. However, the Speed can be distinguished by the dark tinted matrix grille behind the vanes and dark tint lower air intake grilles. Also dark tinted are the Bentley B wing vents, adaptive LED headlamps, Bentley B tail lamps and directional 21" Speed alloy wheels. Together, these changes give the Mulsanne Speed a dramatic, sporting and assertive look.

Inside, the Speed models feature a unique sports interior colour split, including a Speed stitch line and perforated hides. You’ll also find diamond-quilted hide upholstery, new seats, drilled alloy sports pedals and knurled sports gear lever. As with the other Mulsanne models, there’s a new touchscreen infotainment system, state-of-the-art blind spot assist and a telephone upgrade to 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot. Each of the two rear-seat passengers has a 10.4" touch screen tablet for information, communication and entertainment.

Bentley Mulsanne Speed

In the Mulsanne Speed, Bentley’s redoubtable 6 ¾ litre V8 feels less like a mere engine and more like a force of nature. The peak outputs are astonishing: 530bhp (537PS) and 1,100NM of torque. Even though the Mulsanne Speed is a large, luxurious four-door this translates to 0-60mph acceleration in just 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 190mph. Advanced technologies such as cylinder de-activation and variable cam phasing, together with an 8-speed automatic transmission, ensure the engine meets the most stringent legislation. There’s also a deeper, more urgent exhaust note to remind you of the Mulsanne Speed’s performance bias.

Complementing the extra power is a chassis and suspension package that’s driver-oriented, without losing the smooth refinement that rear-seat passengers will demand. Continuous Damping Control adjusts the car's ride 50 times per second via computer-controlled airsprings, and there are four selectable drive modes to give the driver a choice of setups for every road and occasion. Sport, for example, lowers the ride height and adjusts the settings for traction and body control to enhance the feeling of connection between driver and machine.
