The luxury SUV market continues to grow in appeal and Bentley’s Bentayga has reset the bar for both performance and luxury. Originally offered with the silken 6.0-litre W12 petrol engine, the range now gains wider appeal with the arrival of a 4.0 V8 diesel version. Class-leading power and torque figures ensure that performance is very nearly as sensational as that of its W12 stablemate, with the additional bonus of a range between fill-ups of around 620 miles.
Externally, there are a few subtle clues to distinguish the new Bentayga Diesel from the W12 model. The lower front door edge carries a V8 Diesel badge and the exhaust features ‘twin quad’ tailpipes. But the most distinctive feature is the black matrix grille, with a chrome surround and central bar, in place of the W12 Bentayga’s all-chrome version. The new black grille is intended as a design signature for the diesel powertrain and gives the Bentayga Diesel a purposeful air. A 20" ten-spoke alloy wheel is offered as standard, with the option of a Mulliner Driving Specification 21" wheel in silver or grey.
Inside the full range of Bentayga wood veneers, leather colours and options is available, including the beautifully-crafted Mulliner Hamper Set, sections of which cleverly convert into outdoor seats. Among the choice of veneers is a new Liquid Amber finish.
