Rapide S

More power, less weight and even more responsive. Ferocious.

The Aston Martin Rapide S is an all-rounder that offers ample rear space for everyday concerns, whilst retaining the driving pleasure, attractive shape and almost all the speed of the more "raw" Aston Martin coupés. The craftsmanship of the hand stitched interior, when combined with plentiful headroom, legroom and kneeroom, makes the Rapide S a car in which being a passenger is almost as pleasant as being the driver.

Sophisticated touches, such as climate control adjustable for each individual passenger, come as standard. New optional equipment allows for further customisation of the interior with glass switches, duotone perforated leather, carbon fibre facia and paddle shift. Exterior options include a revised alloy wheel line up and carbon exterior pack featuring carbon fibre front splitter, mirror caps, rear diffuser and lamp infills with a black border surround.

With 552bhp of power output at 6650rpm, the new generation AM29 6.0-litre V12 engine of the Rapide S can push the car to a new maximum speed of 203mph. The new engine, also seen in the new Vanquish and DB9 delivers enhanced performance and CO2 benefits compared to the previous Rapide engine. It is, however, a sportscar built for the challenges of the real world rather than the racetrack.

Aided by the precision of the 8-speed Touchtronic gearbox, the Rapide S cruises in an equally effortless manner whether you are negotiating suburbia or the most remote rural areas. Nevertheless, the level of torque available (630Nm at 5500rpm) means there is more than enough force for quick and efficient overtaking. Pushing the "Sport" button changes the gear ratios to maximise torque, giving you a sharper, firmer ride.

Aston Martin Rapide S

The Rapide S is constructed on an extended and strengthened version of Aston Martin’s "VH" chassis, and makes good use of its extra length (5019mm, or 197.6"). The reinforced rear-wheel drive platform creates extra stability for the adaptive double-wishbone suspension.

The additional space provided by the long frame also enables the fitting of elongated seats with integrated headrests that provide excellent lower back support. As ever, the upholstery itself is made from pliable and finely stitched leather. The pleasant ambience and comfort of the cabin helps to reduce physical stress to a minimum, even on journeys taking many hours.

Weighing 1990kg (4387lb), many would expect the Rapide S to come to a sudden halt far less swiftly than it accelerates through the gears. The ventilated dual cast brakes, however, are superbly responsive and allied to a range of systems to assist control.

2016 model upgrades include the updated AMi II Infotainment system which offers improved driver interface controls with additional vehicle information. Updates also include the introduction of a new style fascia, this stylish one-piece console now flows through the centre of the car, offering a more useable interface for both the driver and the passenger.
