V12 Vantage Roadster

2009 - 2013

Visceral power and performance amplified by open cockpit.

As well as the drop-top format, the new Vantage Roadster has a number of differences – both aesthetic and functional – from the coupé. Connoisseurs will be able to pick out subtle but noticeable design cues, such as the forged alloy wheels and carbon fibre detailing on the side strakes, mirror caps and rear light infills.

Driving the V12 Vantage Roadster is an exhilarating experience for any committed motorist. It combines the power of Aston Martin’s naturally aspirated 6.0 litre engine with a soft-top roof, allowing you and your passenger to bask in its sonorous roar in the open air.

Overview

Aston Martin’s 6.0 litre V12 petrol unit is widely known as one of the finest new sportscar engines of recent years. Its maximum power output and torque come in at a monstrous 517PS at 6,500rpm and 570Nm at 5,750rpm respectively. That it has been fitted into the Vantage Roadster’s comparatively small engine bay is a fine accomplishment in itself.

Small and delicate adaptions to the Vantage Roadster’s frame, such as the retuned dampers and rear spring design, minimise any effect that the lack of a roof has on performance and handling. This fine tuning means that the roadster matches its coupé sibling’s top speed of 190mph, and that it achieves 62mph from a standing start in 4.5 seconds (as opposed to the coupé’s 4.2 seconds – a miniscule 0.3 second difference).

Technology

Aston Martin V12 Vantage Roadster

As befits such an archetypal driver’s car, the V12 Vantage Roadster is rear-wheel drive and equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, the aggressive gearing of which provides instantaneous throttle response at any speed. The reinforced torsional stiffness of the Roadster’s frame, along with its Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres and carbon-ceramic disc brakes, maintain traction around the sharpest bends.

“Sport” Mode, a feature exclusive to the V12, gives the vehicle an even keener edge on faster roads. It also opens the exhaust system’s bypass valves, amplifying the roar of the engine. Indeed, quality sound is very much a preoccupation of the Roadster’s designers; drivers can choose between the 700W Aston Martin Premium Audio System with Dolby® Pro Logic II® and the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 1000W Audio System, heightening the matchless driving experience that the car offers.
