GranTurismo Sport

Sharper styling, improved infotainment and faster too. Bravo!

If Maserati’s early history was all about Grand Prix racing, it hit the big time when someone had the bright idea of putting one of its high-performance engines into a beautiful road car, crafted with the skills of a top carrozzeria. The A6 1500 GT Pininfarina of 1947 set a trend of fast, beautiful grand tourers that continues to today’s GranTurismo.

For the 2018 Model Year this iconic GT features a skilful restyle and some careful improvements inside and under the bonnet. From the 2018 model year, all models feature the characterful, torquey and naturally-aspirated 4.7-litre V8.

Overview

Maserati GranTurismo Sport

Some manufacturers’ mid-life design updates make you wish they hadn’t bothered. But come on; this is Maserati. Maserati only does beautiful. The MY 18 GranTurismo Sport features a new sharknose hexagonal grille flanked by two large air intakes.  It’s more distinctive than the outgoing model, inspired by the acclaimed Alfieri concept. And it still features the Maserati Trident to induce a smile of pride in every owner. The rear bumper and exhaust outlets have also been restyled – the effect is neater and sharper, yet elegant. The new GranTurismo is also more aerodynamic, dropping from a Cd of 0.33 to 0.32. That’s worth an extra few kilometres an hour on the autostrada.

Inside, the infotainment system features a new high-res 8.4" screen and is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functions. There’s a redesigned central console with a forged aluminium double-rotary control. Another welcome refinement is the relocated button cluster for the driving modes, which is now more logically sited next to the gearshift.  A Harman Kardon Premium sound system provides high quality audio for those rare occasions when you don’t simply want to listen to that big V8 beat. Pure Poltrona Frau leather upholstery cossets up to four adults in comfort.

Technology

Maserati GranTurismo Sport

The GranTurismo Sport is powered by a 4.7-litre V8 that develops 460hp at 7,000rpm and 520Nm of peak torque at 4,750rpm. Transmission is a six-speed ZF automatic.  The GranTurismo Sport accelerates from 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 185mph. A two-door supercar might be faster; a luxury SUV might carry more luggage; but nothing does grand touring with the style and the speed of a Maserati GranTurismo Sport.
