HURACÁN RWD Spyder

LAMBORGHINI'S SUPERCAR FOR RWD PURISTS NOW GOES OPEN TOP.

The Huracán has already proven itself a true Lamborghini of the modern era: immensely fast, sensationally stylish and perfectly usable day-to-day.

As well as offering the all-wheel drive LP 610-4 in Coupé and Spyder variants, Lamborghini already offers the LP 580-2, a RWD Coupé. Now it too is joined by a Spyder version. The line-up is complete..

Overview

Huracán RWD Spyder

Creating the Huracán RWD Spyder involved far more than a straightforward drivetrain change. The RWD models also look subtly different front and rear, notably with larger front air intakes to give increased cooling flow and a small increase in downforce. Tyres are Pirelli P Zeroes specially developed for the rear-drive Huracán models and sit on Kari 19" rims. As with the all-wheel drive Huracán Spyder, the neat soft-top opens and closes in 17 seconds and can be deployed at speeds of up to 31mph.

The Huracán Spyder offers three driving modes; Strada for everyday conditions; Sport, which gives extra freedom to adopt a more oversteering attitude; and Corsa, which is best kept for the track. All three modes harness Lamborghini’s advanced chassis traction control technologies to deliver a pure driving experience with a discreet safety net.  Rear-drive aficionados will enjoy the purity of steering feel of the Electromechanical Power Steering (EPS) though Lamborghini Dynamic Steering is available as an option; as the name suggests the ratio changes for sharper turn-in at speed.  According to Lamborghini, the RWD Spyder’s suspension has been specially tuned for ‘maximum enjoyment and fun’. Amen to that.

Interior is as per the all-wheel drive Spyder, with a wide palette of choice in finishes and colours and that distinctive starter button with its own flip-up safety guard. The effect is driver-focused yet very special – like a jet fighter cockpit with a touch of Star Wars glamour.

Technology

Huracán RWD Spyder

The Huracán LP 580-2 Spyder develops 572bhp at a sensational 8000 rpm, which simply has to be enjoyed with the top-down for the full sonic symphony from the naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V10. That’s some 30bhp down on the all-wheel drive 610-4, but the difference in performance is negligible; 0-62mph in the RWD Spyder takes just 3.6 seconds and top speed is 197mph. In comparison, the extra traction of all-wheel drive and an additional 30bhp gives the LP 610-4 Spyder figures of 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds and 201mph. The RWD Spyder is also 33kg lighter and its weight slightly more rear-biased at 40:60 front:rear.

But to dwell on such minute differences miss the point. Putting all 580 horsepower through the rear wheels feels like an act of daring, taking the path of exhilaration and adrenaline just that bit closer to the edge. For those choosing the LP 580-2 RWD Spyder, that’s all the justification they’ll need.
