Jack Barclay wins the Bentley Charity Karting Challenge 2010

Echoing the daring deeds of the Bentley Boys and their illustrious forbears from the 20s and 30s, Jack Barclay Bentley’s team beat off the challenge from 12 other teams to win the 2010 Bentley Karting Challenge by 2 laps. On a rain soaked track at the fabulous Daytona Milton Keyes karting centre, simply controlling the kart and remaining on track was a serious issue but the competitors battled hard to raise fund for the Prince’s Trust charity.

Teams of 6 drivers came from all over the UK and were a mix of Bentley staff, dealer teams and loyal owners. Jack Barclays dipped into the old allegiance with Silverstone’s BRDC to call upon genuine stars-of-tomorrow Riki Christodoulou, his cousin Adam and James Calado, racing alongside H.R. Owen’s own Mark Langfield, Brian Saunders and Berkeley Square’s old-pro John Morrison.

As John remarked “This looks like a kart-drifting competition …” Riki won pole and fastest lap and simply threw Daytona twin engine kart around like a toy. James was out to enter the same orbit and along with cousin Adam, they competed hard to slide the furthest but actually every team member was a champion in motor racing so a solid and consistent approach was called for … and obtained!

Equally hungry were the second placed team from H.R.Owen Bentley who drove consistently and to their considerable credit were made up entirely of employees from the Service team. A bunch very used to obtaining results for their work.

Bentley Motors provided the most delightful hosting team and despite the worst March weather imaginable, it was a grand affair with some great full hospitality and demo runs from the trio of new model Continental Supersports and GTC Speeds.

All in all a marvelous effort from the Bentley Graduates on behalf of their chosen charity, the Prince’s Trust and every opportunity to ring the charity bell taken.  The finale to the day’s proceeding was an auction of some wonderful pieces provided by the many departments at Bentley HQ. W12 coffee tables, Supersports seat chairs, leather jackets, wood jewelry boxes and signed picture originals, some lovingly crafted work came from Crewe, donated by the workforce in their spare time. Bravo team.

As event winners the Jack Barclay team received a unique trophy hand made in the Crewe woodshop which now sits in pride of place in the Jack Barclay showroom.
