New Bentley Mulsanne arrives at Jack Barclay for Christmas
As part of a unique display over the Christmas period, Jack Barclay Bentley is proud to display the forthcoming Bentley Mulsanne in the famous Berkeley Square showroom until early January.
The design of the new Mulsanne is a unique fusion of sportiness, coachbuilt elegance and solidity. Echoing the Bentley S -Type of the 1950s, the Mulsanne features a bold frontal design dominated by the traditional Bentley matrix grille and highly prominent, classic round inner headlamps with chrome surrounds, flanked by two, smaller outboard lamp clusters, all featuring the latest in lighting technology. The iconic ‘Flying B’ retractable radiator mascot is available as an option.
The long bonnet, short front overhang and long rear overhang help to convey a sense of power and movement, reinforced by muscular haunches and sharply sculptured lines which flow gracefully from the front wings to the rear. Uniquely designed 20-inch wheels (and optional 21-inch) reinforce the Mulsanne’s powerful, sporting stance.
The front wing shape is a unique feature of the Mulsanne. It was inspired by the sculpted front wing of the 1950s S-TYPE and completely surrounds the front lamps. The sharp feature lines conceived by our designers would have been impossible to reproduce using conventional steel pressing methods so, rather than compromise the design, we turned to aerospace technology – “Superforming”. This involves a single sheet of aluminium being heated to 500 degrees C and then forced into a mould using compressed air. The result is a “carved from- solid” appearance along with light weight and high stiffness.
There is a choice of three wheel styles, each in two finishes, painted or bright chrome/polished: a standard 20” wheel and two 21” option wheel styles. Our showroom example has the optional 21” Five-spoke sports wheel with a polished finish.
The rear screen sits completely surrounded by a metal panel and appears to “float”. This is an execution that is not possible for volume manufacturers to use because of the expense and hand-craftsmanship required to ensure the screen fits perfectly.
The Mulsanne interior represents four years of development and refinement of a set of product features and multi-sensory attributes that uniquely differentiate the Bentley brand. The definition of these attributes was obtained through a large scale research programme, launched in 2005. Thus, classic signature features were identified from Bentleys dating from the 1920’s to present day products. These led us to the initial interior themes: Use of bright chrome, continuous bands of wood and leather, soft comfortable seats, plush luxurious carpets and “One-touch-one-action” controls.
The Bentley Mulsanne is a car that offers infinite choice. It is available in 28 standard colours, with an extended paint range of over 100 colours also available. Furthermore, a total of 24 duo tone options are available, with light over dark, or dark over light options. The Mulsanne can also be personalised through the choice of a Flying B Mascot, painted or chromed radiator shell, stainless steel or black lower grille and wing vents as well as stainless steel or black door pillar brightware.
Interior choices start with 24 hide colours to choose from, including 3 new hides: Highland Hare, Twine and Shortbread. Five different colour splits and a choice of stitching and piping options provide the finishing touches.
There are 9 veneer options at launch, including the new Sapelli Pommele. All veneers, excluding Piano Black, are available with the Picture Frame option. Contemporary Marquetry with inlay is available with Burr Walnut and Burr Oak veneers.
As well as soft-touch leather, individually-selected veneers and deep, plush carpets, the Mulsanne has a multitude of features to cosset its occupants, such as:
- All new four-zone air conditioning system
- Twelve-way electrically adjustable front and eight-way rear seats
- Acoustic glazing
- Electronic rear cabin blinds
- Interior mood lighting
- Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
