On the Write track with Tibaldi pens

Jack Barclay, the world famous Bentley dealership, and the automotive marque’s official showroom in central London, has become the latest UK stockist of Tibaldi pens.

Widely regarded as the finest technical writing implements in the world and serious collectors’ items, the attention to detail and craftsmanship afforded to Tibaldi pens is unrivalled.

All Tibaldi pens have a patented filling mechanism where revolving the cap fills the barrel with ink and produces the gentle sound and reassuring feeling experienced when manually winding the crown or bezel of a fine watch. The fountain pens hold 0.9ml of ink, enough to write approximately 555 metres per refill with a fine nib, and feature a window on the barrel revealing to the user the amount of ink remaining.

All instruments are crafted around the principle of phi, or the Divine Proportion, which has been considered for centuries as the equation for perfection and natural beauty. For example, the proportion between the cap and the visible portion of the barrel when the pen is closed equals the phi ratio of 1.618 and even the pen’s case is measured using phi. Each clip features a sophisticated spring mechanism that lifts it away from the cap and a polished rotary wheel lets it slide effortlessly into a pocket.

Amongst the Tibaldi range currently on display in Jack Barclay’s Mayfair showroom are two limited edition pens created especially for Bentley.

The first collaboration between Bentley and Tibaldi was to create a pen to mark the 60th year of production at Bentley’s Crewe factory. Using the limited edition cars designed by Bentley for the Diamond Jubilee, the Arnage and the Continental GT Diamond Series as inspiration, the pens are restricted to a limited edition of just 600 sterling silver fountain and sterling silver roller balls, 60 solid white gold fountain pens and 60 solid white gold roller balls.

The finish on the barrel echoes the engine-tuned dashboard of a Bentley. This is the first time that such a finish has been achieved on a curved surface. Each nib is engraved with the Bentley logo and Tibaldi’s guarantee – La Qualità.

The second Tibaldi for Bentley range celebrates the history and legend of Bentley at the Brooklands race track.

Restricted to a limited edition of 50 fountain pens and 50 roller balls with a solid white gold barrel, and 500 fountain pens and 500 roller balls with a sterling silver barrel, the metal is etched with the Bentley at Brooklands racing motif and an image of two Bentleys at Brooklands designed by Bentley interior designer Jonathan Punter. Beluga black lacquered metal creates a striking contrast with the silver or white gold barrels.

Each of the ‘Crewe 60 Years’ and ‘Brooklands’ sterling silver pens carry the Bentley exclusive hallmark from Sheffield’s Assay Office.

Speaking about the introduction of the range of luxury writing instruments to the showroom, Jack Barclay, general sales manager, Derek Bennett says: “The craftsmanship and intricate design of the Tibaldi range echoes the philosophy of Bentley. The Bentley at Brooklands collection captures some of the design elements of the interior of the new Bentley Brooklands coupe and, as with the interior of all Bentleys, the instruments have to feel as good as they look.

“We are delighted to be able to offer such an exclusive and luxury range of pens in our showroom. A small collection of pens, starting from £2,200, will be on display and the whole Tibaldi range will be available to order.”
